raining off

*
the Chinaberry thickly green: a black of eerie weather
*
snails eating snails crushed as women rush into the office building
*
he sweats with a sickness of birds—his skin the pale of cracked berries
*
the last word a letter unopened—a dull edge dripping with a syrup ghost: some
thing that oozes like a grave of dead light or if a clown is a butterfly turned inside out
*
all this rain a chorus of slamming doors
