Stephanie says there is no there there
& the dog chases its tail &
the wyrm Ouroboros
eats itself
there is
no Buddha
there is no not
no not there not there
no Stephanie no line of recourse
we operate without a we to operate
& Louis says reduce the copy or else no copy
& Campbell finds no insect no bird no amphibian
only the still water reflecting what is not there to reflect
a photograph of what is already gone an artifact of acting as if
he turns & turns while others press into hard stones made physicists say
of more absence than presence but they still advise against smacking one against
your skull & who would not concur: the thing in front of you the thing the you the between
among how ripe how green how the honey is not the stain & the stain is
not the wash unstaining itself as the child who wets the bed
is not the star or collection of stars or a poem
about the shame of staining
of hiding the secret
of leaking out
what hides
can there
be any
secret
in the case
of the world
ask Wittgenstein
the cat is alive & dead
neither alive nor dead nor
was there ever a cat in a cage
nor a coyote with a man reading
a newspaper his cane not cut from
a tree that grew from a seed buried in
an earth that neither turns nor not turns
slap the novice who converses in the kitchen
speak up for Newtonian fire burning both ends
always in the middle always nothing else
to do but what is done in undoing

& the child still weeps & someone
still says do not feel shame but
